The Magic of South Broadway Cultural Center
The South Broadway Cultural Center is a community facility which houses the South Broadway Library, an Art Gallery that supports local artist exhibits free to the public and the John Lewis Theatre where you can experience some of the best dance and music performances Albuquerque has to offer.
The magic extends beyond the venue with historic value being held on Broadway Boulevard itself. This neighborhood started to get its stride in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s with small businesses establishing an economic community that helped distinguish this area. This hub of people with diverse ethnicities has shaped the genuine “community-feel” that has long been a virtue of Broadway Blvd.
South Broadway Cultural Center is continuing the “community-feel” of the neighborhood by hosting benefit concerts, opening its theatre to young acting groups and holding workshops that help educate the public.
The magic of South Broadway Cultural Center is felt when local artist and photographers showcase their work in the exhibit hall.
It can be felt when Flamenco performers grace the stage with their choreographed dance moves; it’s felt during the popular Dia de los Muertos annual event and during each play Cardboard Playhouse performs on stage.
Recent renovations have greatly enhanced viewing, sound and audience comfort in the John Lewis Theater, and a new large skylight in the Art Gallery, plus a new HVAC system, makes the cultural center an even more magical space to visit.
