PASSIVE RAINWATER HARVESTING WORKSHOP

August 12, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+0

BernCo Natural Resources Services will host a Passive Rainwater Harvesting Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the recently reopened Carlito Springs at 40 Carlito Springs Rd., Cedar Crest, New Mexico 87008.
Passive rainwater harvesting allows homeowners to capture rainwater from their roof directly in their landscape. The workshop, which is part of Bernalillo County Open Space’s Backyard Farming Series, will provide tips on how to design, install, and maintain passive rainwater harvesting features.
“The workshop follows a recently released field guide. Our goal is to offer even more support to people who are interested in conserving water and protecting our watersheds,” says water conservation program lead, Megan Marsee.
Topics will include:
Why harvest rainwater
Evaluating sites for rainwater harvesting features
Sizing rainwater harvesting features
Installing rainwater harvesting features basins, swales, and soil sponges
Selecting plants
Mulch
Watering, pruning, and weeding
Attendees will also have a chance to enter a free drawing for one of two 100-gallon rain barrels. The free workshop is capped at 30 participants and is filling up fast. To register for the workshop visit: www.bernco.gov/openspacesignup.
